Guiyang, capital city of Guizhou Province, is located in the center of the province. It is the political, economic, cultural and science center of the province. Guiyang administers six districts, one city and three counties, covering an area of 8034 square kilometers.  A variety of nationalities congregate in Guiyang. According to the fifth national census in 2000, there were 51 nationalities in Guiyan. A total population was 3,718,400, among which the population of minority nationalities was 573,900, accounting for 15.43% of the total population. Eleven native minorities reside in the city, namely, Miao, Bouyei, Tujia, Yi, Dong, Gelao, Bai, Hui, Man, Zhuang and Sui nationality. The minority nationalities mostly congregate in 18 nationality townships and 199 nationality-congregating-villages in non-nationality townships. The 18 nationality townships are as follows: Mengguan Miao and Bouyei Nationality Township in Huangxi District, Xiaobi Bouyei and Miao Nationality Township, Qiantao Bouyei and Miao Nationality Township, Maling Bouyei and Miao Nationality Township, Gaopo Miao Nationality Township, Huchao Miao and Bouyei Nationality Township in Huangxi District; Xinbao Bouyei Nationality Township, Pianpo Bouyei Nationality Township in Wudang District; Dula Bouyei Nationality Township and Niuchang Bouyei Nationality Township in Baiyun District; Hefeng Bouyei and Miao Nationality Township, Nanjiang Bouyei and Miao Nationality Township and Gaozhai Miao and Bouyei Nationality Township in Kaiyang County; Qingshan Miao Nationality Township in Xifeng County; Dashi Bouyei Nationality Township; Maige Miao and Bouyei Nationality Township, Wangzhuang Bouyei and Miao Nationality Township and Liuchang Miao Nationality Township in Qingzhen City.
